Στη φωτογραφία απεικονίζεται στιγμιότυπο από τις αρχαιολογικές ανασκαφές στη Σαλαμίνα της Κύπρου. Πιο συγκεκριμένα στη φωτογραφία διακρίνονται οι κίονες από την κιονοστοιχία του αρχαίου Γυμνασίου και στο βάθος τα αγάλματα με αποσπασμένες τις κεφαλές, κάτι που έγινε κατά την χριστιανική περίοδο. Η Σαλαμίνα ή Σαλαμίς ήταν αρχαία πόλη-κράτος της Κύπρου. Βρισκόταν στη ανατολική ακτή της Κύπρου, στις εκβολές του ποταμού Πεδαίου, 6 χλμ. βόρεια της σύγχρονης Αμμοχώστου. More specifically the picture shows some of the columns of the ancient Gymnasium, while in the background some statues with detached heads are shown. The action of the decapitation of the statues took place during the Christian period. Salamis (Ancient Greek: Σαλαμίς) is an ancient Greek city-state on the east coast of Cyprus, at the mouth of the river Pedieos, 6 km north of modern Famagusta.
